Stand back, a superhero movie in under two hours. Now this is too good to be true. Sadly, this may be true. While it does have a shorter runtime, the movie seems to have mixed too many elements into itself, causing the shorter runtime to be a problem. They want to be a fun, colorful but also dark and evil movie all wrapped in a fun adventure that turns into a villain with a horrible crime to follow.
When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.
Milly Alcock is Supergirl, and she knows what she's doing. She knows how to bring the charm, bring the style, and bring the butt kicking only Supergirl would really do. The problem seems to be how they used her in the movie. At times, she is underused and sometimes not used at all.
Since this movie had a darker tone, it seemed like Super girl was going to be darker in her fight scenes. However, they do these cut always that you want to see the action, but they choose to hide it.
It seems like this movie was trying to push to be dark, darker than you think going in. The crimes the bad guys in the movie are doing are crimes you would think from Nolan's Gotham City. This seems like the complete opposite of what Superman was doing. So it seems odd that with this movie, they wanted that darker tone, but also tried to be colorful and joyful at times.
Somehow, Jason Momoa's character is actually something you want to watch more of. The issue is this movie also underused him as well. He's not in the movie long enough for us to learn about him, which then also makes us not care about him. So having Momoa alongside Alcock was good when they were, it just wasn't enough.
Popcorn. This might be a superhero movie with a short runtime, but you will need the popcorn to be your very own superhero.
No need to stay through the credits. There is not one mid or end credit scene. It seemed like the last clip we saw should have been a mid credit, but maybe they knew the audience was ready to go by the time the movie ended.
SUPERGIRL will be in theaters and IMAX® on June 26th, 2026.
Rating: 2 out of 5
