Superman stars David Corenswet in the pinnacle role of Clark Kent/Superman. James Gunn wrote and directed the film in which he wanted to bring Superman back to his roots.

This is an origin story but it’s already progressed, so Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) is already in Superman’s life, working at the Daily Planet along with Jimmy, (Skyler Gisondo). The movie explores Superman’s relationship with Lois, his own struggle with coming to terms about the truth of his parents, and trying to live a life in which kindness is at the center. There is also Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), I enjoyed his portrayal.

I felt like this film truly captures who Superman is at his heart. There was one scene in particular where he was fighting a monster with “The Justice Gang” (Nathan Fillion as The Green Lantern, Isabella Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific) and Superman was asking them to be gentle to the creature and not to kill it. To me, this shows who he is at his heart, that there is always a different path forward and to be kind to all. Superman is a character for everyone, and I feel like this movie really captures who he is. The movie fully encapsulates Superman’s slogan, “Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow”.

The cinematography was spot on, the lighting and using the sun to provide a backdrop. It was very “Americana” and reminiscent of the show Smallville.

The star of the movie though was obviously Krypto. This dog absolutely stole my heart and had me laughing! You can tell he’s going to be a hit for all audiences.

Superman’s relationship with Lois was accurately portrayed and I liked seeing their dynamic, they also have amazing chemistry. The scenes with them together, felt like watching a real relationship, the arguments, and making up and laughing about it later. There was a very real element to their scenes and I appreciate James writing them so true to how relationships are. Especially theirs because Lois is an incredibly powerful character and important to who Superman is.

There are going to be a lot of comparisons to the prior DC Universe, which had a darker element to it. This feels like a completely different film/universe. I would say watch it, and it’s ok to like both! Movies are supposed to be entertaining and I feel like this truly hit the mark. I’m thankful James Gunn is at the helm, I think the next movies (whatever they are) will be so punk rock!

I will definitely be seeing this again.

SUPERMAN will be in theaters and IMAX® nationwide on July 11th, 2025.
