Marvel hasn't been having the best time with films lately. More than lately, more like since this new phase has started. This movie changes things. Marvel movies are back, maybe not with the highest bar, but if this is the direction we are headed, this is a good sign and the next movie could just be a little better, then better again, and Marvel maybe back in the full swing of things.

In THUNDERBOLTS* Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes—Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?

As you can tell, this movie is filled with the B characters we enjoyed in the older Marvel movies, now trying to be the main characters. This adds to make this a different depth in the movie. They are now trying to find their identity as we know them one way, but they want to strive for more. This leads to something being way over the top funny, and some things just being sad. The movie brings tons of emotion to the screen, and you need to be ready for it all.

This movie is how they used to be. Yes, there is lots of action, yes, lots of battles, but it's also a story. A story about feelings and family. It makes everyone feel belonging, and may make you feel alone for a moment, just a brief moment though, or maybe longer and that's ok. This movie is like those Marvel films that have the action to keep things moving, the story to keep things interesting, and the emotions to make you feel feelings you forgot you had.

If you go in with the same mindset as the few past Marvel movies, you will really enjoy this movie. It's fun and exciting and is a good start to the popcorn season movies. So that being said, make sure you get your popcorn, get your soda, bring your friends, and enjoy this movie.

As I'm sure you can guess, do not leave your seat. As normal, Marvel has a mid-credit scene and a scene at the very end. And the scene at the very end may just tell us more than we need at this moment.

Marvel Studios’ THUNDERBOLTS* releases May 2nd, 2025, in U.S. theaters.
