The Lion King is in theaters on July 19th, 2019.
Get. Ready. For. Beyoncé! The new photorealistic Lion King isn’t out yet, but I’ve already seen some
negative reviews online, and I have to say I seriously disagree with all the hate. I loved this remake of
The Lion King and thought director Jon Favreau did a beautiful job.
I don’t think I need to go into the plot details – unless you live under a rock (not Pride Rock) you’ve seen
Disney’s classic Lion King from 1994! This remake paid full homage to this classic story, sticking VERY
close to the original movie! They changed only a few scenes and added a gorgeous new song from the
one and only Beyoncé. This cast amazed me, with strong performances from Seth Rogen and Billy
Eichner as Timon and Pumbaa, as well as Donald Glover as Simba. With a supporting cast like BEYONCE,
John Oliver, Keegan-Michael Key, Eric Andre and more, how could this movie possibly go wrong? I got
chills hearing Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and really tried to hold back tears for THE stampede scene.
The entire movie creation was beautiful and made me want to watch a documentary about African
safaris after. All the animals looked so real and so adorable!
I genuinely do not understand how critics have so many negative things to say about this movie. If they
had drastically changed the plot, people would have been mad; so, when they really don’t change the
plot, people are still mad. If you loved the original Lion King, and you love Beyoncé, then do yourself a
favor: ignore all the critics and go see this beautiful movie for yourself. Hats off to Jon Favreau for an
incredible movie, and to Hans Zimmer for another amazing score. I, for one, can’t WAIT to be king (to
see it again)!

Disney’s “THE LION KING,” directed by Jon Favreau, journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. Staying true to the classic story, Favreau utilizes pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring the iconic characters to the big screen in a whole new way.
