Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is in theaters on August 9th, 2019.

This movie is based off the beloved childhood books of the same name. From producer Guilermo Del Toro he brings his creative mind to this film.

Stella, played by Zoe Colletti gets into some mischief with her friends. They discover a haunted house and a troubling secret that takes these kids on a journey to find the truth.

I was expecting to be extremely scared throughout this whole film but I wasn’t. It started off making me feel super anxious but once I found out it wasn’t what I thought, I was pleasantly surprised! Lots of scares but not so bad you need to cover your eyes. It has an interesting plot that unfolds overtime and it might feel silly at times but I think they are really on to something. This is perfect for kids who want more scares but not ones that will give you nightmares. Think “IT” light, or one level up from goosebumps.

The acting was great, I think for the market this is geared towards, it was awesome. Again - if you’re looking for SUPER scary, adult horror stuff this is NOT for you. If you appreciate the genre in general and can keep an open mind, I think you’ll like this film.

Rating: 3 out of 5
