Five Feet Apart is in theaters on March 15th, 2019.

John Green hasn't released a movie this year but fear not- Justin Baldoni is here to bring us a teen romance movie! ‘Five Feet Apart’ hits theatre's this weekend. Going into this movie, I didn’t really know what it was about. I didn’t really catch the trailer, and to be honest, I judged it as being very similar to ‘The Fault in Our Stars.’ After watching, the movie wasn’t as great as ‘The Fault in Our Stars.’ In fact, if i do recall, this movie used the exact same song used in ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ movie (M83-Wait). Many people enjoyed it, however I was on the fence while leaving the theatre.

In this movie we are introduced to Stella (Haley Lu Richardson) a teenager who has been in and out of the hospital due to cystic fibrosis. During this hospital stay, she encounters another cystic fibrosis patient Will (Cole Sprouse), who is there undergoing a drug trial for an antibiotic-resistant infection. At first they don’t get along, Stella is obsessive-compulsive while Will is a sarcastic rule breaker. But of course, over time, the two start falling for each other. But if you know anything about the disease they have, the two must stay six feet apart due to the risk of cross-infection and one of them dying. Their feelings are then tested throughout the movie.

I feel this movie is more about the love story rather than the disease. Having said that, Haley Lu Richardson is incredible, along with her chemistry with Cole. I can’t wait to see her in more movies. I really liked her character until the end. I was very annoyed with a choice she made. And I understand people do stupid things when they're in love, especially teenagers, but uhm? What are you doing ??? Cole Sprouse’s character was very bland to me. He really didn’t do much acting wise and I didn’t really find his character that interesting. This movie was very predictable to me. I could kind of tell from the beginning of the movie what was going to happen. Also, both of the main characters treated the hospital as a place to play and flirt rather than an actual hospital. Unless patients really can do things like have a scavenger hunt and leave balloons to pop around a hospital?

Some people really did enjoy the film and I’m sure teenagers will enjoy it just as much. However, it wasn’t to my liking and I would recommend watching Captain Marvel or waiting for US next week.

Rating: 2 out of 5
