How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is in theaters on February 22nd, 2019.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is the 3 rd film in this franchise and might actually be the best yet. This film is the perfect ending to a story that started in 2010 and has followed Hiccup and Toothless as they’ve learned their place in this world of Vikings and dragons. This franchise, but especially The Hidden World, is made for all ages of kids and even adults. The life lessons it teaches the children of today will make you proud to be the person buying the tickets to whichever theater you choose to visit.

Needless to say, I am a big fan of this franchise. So, call me biased when I say this is easily one of the best animated trilogies of all time. These are not just great animated movies, they are great movies! Hiccup and his friends once again have a threat coming for Berk, and this is their most formidable yet. This threat, and the promise of many others in the future because of the worlds hatred of dragons, are enough to send the dragon riders of Berk on a journey for a safe haven called The Hidden World.

The overall story of this film is everything I could have asked for. It has big reveals, a ton of suspense, but most of all, it has heart. I am not ashamed to say that I teared up in this movie, not because of a character death too gruesome for your children, but because I truly care about these characters. Back in 2010 especially, Hiccup was almost made to look like me, and his curse of thinking differently than many around him also mirrors my own. So, with the final chapter of his story, and how much him and I both have grown over these 9 years, this story and relatability of these characters being around their family and their best friends/pets, truly works on every level.

If I had to give a complaint about the movie, it would be the introduction of the light fury, Toothless’ counterpart and love interest. I think the execution and everything about her is fantastic, but it seems as if everyone, but the dragon nation of Berk, knows about this dragon species, and I thought that was strange. That is about as deep of a nitpick as I can give, and even with it, I adored this movie.

PLEASE go see The Hidden World! It deserves to be seen on the big screen and you deserve to enjoy it the way it was intended. Take your family, your friends, or even go alone. Either way, I can say that you will be very pleased with your experience once you leave the theater.

Rating: 4.8 out of 5
