Dracula is back at it again this year. This time, he's on a boat and forced into hiding in the shadows to only come out at night and eat all his prey, the crewmen. However, does that mean this movie is worth wild, or even worth your time to think about? ,

Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London.

Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew.

The amount of gore is one issue I have with the movie. No, not that they use too much. I feel like it's overwhelming. Yes, there are only so many crew members on the boat, but that doesn't mean they can't have fun with it. It just seemed like they were cutting the more gruesome parts out of it, yet the film is still rated R.

Another miss is the character development of the actors. Some of these actors are amazing and give a great performance. It just seems they fall flat during the second half of the film.

While some of the visuals are really cool, even though it is very dark in the lighting, it makes it hard to watch sometimes. So I couldn't imagine what it would look like if you watched this at home in daylight. This is one film you will have to watch in the middle of the night.

For this film, you want scares and gore, and this film doesn't really offer that too much. It just seems like they could have brought more scares, even those easy jump scares, and blood and guts to the big screen.

THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER is in Theaters August 11th, 2023.

Rating: 1.5 out of 5
