Get ready for blood. Of course, you're thinking a vampire movie with Nic Cage is going to bring laughs and blood on the screen, but you're under thinking it. There is so much blood on the screen that you may not be ready for what you are about to watch. Just get ready for lots of laughs and lots of blood coming out of everything and everyone.
In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula. Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.
Nic Cage as the vampire is what sets the movie up for success right from the beginning. While other characters are introduced on screen, including Renfield himself, it's Nic Cage as Dracula that steals the show, and is the only reason you're interested in continuing to watch the movie. His performance is not only comical, but so in tuned, you may just think Nic Cage is a real vampire himself, and he's not even acting.
The short runtime helps move the movie along when it gets to the slow points and love interest of Renfield. The good thing about that is the movie quickly moves through those moments to bring you more laughs and more Dracula time. So you can enjoy the laugh and enjoy the blood.
While this movie isn't something I'd say run to the theater and watch, since I'm sure it will be streaming soon enough. I'd say if you could go with a group of friends, just so you can laugh at Nic Cage putting on the best Dracula performance of his life, then you should go.
RENFIELD is in theaters on April 14th, 2023.
