A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is in theaters on November 22nd, 2019.

I should start off by saying, I did not grow up with Mister Rogers. I didn't watch his tv show, while I still knew who he was because of pop culture, I never spent much of my childhood, or adult life, looking into his show, or what he was really about.

Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

While this movie starts off slow, and has a slow middle, and ends on a slow note, this movie is very much worth your time. Tom Hanks does an amazing job being Mister Rogers and he shows the nice sweet side of the man, it goes deeper. You can tell that Mister Rogers wanted to do his very best to show the goodness in this world for the kids watching his program.

While this movie is really about the guy that wrote the article about Mister Rogers, it is still an amazing film to enjoy with family over the Thanksgiving weekend.
