Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is in theaters on December 14th, 2018.

Another Spiderman movie???? Really??? YES! But please don’t judge this one too hard! Into the Spider-Verse is an amazing film! I’m so pleased to see Sony do something different with their property. This spiderman movie is the best spiderman movie so far (coming from the Toby Mcguire spiderman fan) and may I add my favorite animated movie this year, yes better than Ralph Breaks the Internet, there I said it, I’m sorry Disney.

We’ve all heard the origin story of spider man: Teenage boy gets bitten by a radioactive spider, gains spider abilities and becomes New York’s costumed crime fighter. However, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse takes you on a new journey with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), a black-Latino teenager who is adjusting to his new school. At the same time, he encounters different versions of Spider...people? from alternate dimensions that team up together to save the city of New York from Kingpin (Liev Schrieber) while also finding a way to return to their dimensions before their bodies decay.

This movie had such an awesome Spider-team. Characters like Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage) and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) steal the spotlight for their comedic antics. While Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) bring in the female empowerment I thoroughly enjoyed just as much. Then of course we have the main character Miles, who is not only struggling with his family and identity, but also struggling with his spider abilities throughout the movie, which really helps make it feel like a coming of age story.

The movie also looks incredible! The animation style blends 3D animation with 2D elements. It’s very engaging and looks like nothing I’ve seen before. There were so many ways they could have got this wrong but this film is near flawless, with the visuals, the soundtrack, the characters and the wonderful Stan Lee cameo. I loved everything about this movie. It is an exceptional origin movie with great, emotional storytelling.

Also- don’t forget to stay after the credits- I promise you’ll laugh!
