New Year, New You will premiere exclusively on Hulu’s “Into The Dark” On December 28th, 2018.
While watching the new exclusive Hulu film, New Year, New You, I was in suspense.
Uncertain of what was going to jump out from the corner or just what would happen next. With
all of the dramatic, leery, background music who wouldn’t be? However, nothing seemed to
happen. It is as though you built up that suspense for nothing in the beginning. So I was a little
confused afterwards. It isn’t until the end of the film that some of the suspense truly has
reasoning.
New Year, New You, is one of many new movies apart of Hulu’s new year-long horror
anthology series. It was directed by Sophia Takal and stars an all-female cast. Four old high
school best friends get back together, after years of not seeing each other, to celebrate New
Year’s. The night is young and the games begin. However, you can sense the tension in the room
between actress Suki Waterhouse (Lex) and Carley Chaikin (Danielle). Things quickly heat up
between the two girls and you watch as the plot unfolds. Uncertain of what happened between
the friends in the past, you can only watch in hopes that all of your questions will soon be
answered.
Although, I found that many of my questions went unanswered in the end. For instance,
what really happened in Lex’s old house? What was the point of the suspenseful beginning? I
definitely would have liked more details while watching this movie and thought it was sort of a
weird film. Let’s put it this way, the film was not at all what I was expecting. I can only hope
that the rest of the films shown for Hulu’s new horror series are better than this one. If you ask
me, it was poorly put together and you won’t be missing much if you skip out on this one! I will
sadly be adding this film to my list of “B” movies.
Rating: 2 out of 5
