Mortal Engines is in theaters on December 14th, 2018.
Produced and screenplay by Peter Jackson...I was expecting something that would hold up to his name.
Mortal Engines is a film adaptation of the world renowned book series of the same name. In a post-apocalyptic world Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar) is trying to get revenge on Thaddeus Valentine - the man who killed her mother and left Hester with a large scar on her face. As she comes upon the city of London (now traveling on wheels) she meets Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheenan) and he joins her on her journey.
There were a lot of plot holes and things that just fell off the story. The part with the Shrike wasn't even necessary and I felt like it cluttered the movie, his special effects were my least favorite and it felt very cheesy. Kat and Ronan had no point whatsoever, they didn’t even show Ronan again and they both didn’t do anything to advance the plot.
I will say most of the CGI and special effects were beautiful, very well done. I would’ve liked to see less of it though and more real life sets.
I had high hopes for this one, I think if they took more time to make it into a trilogy and not cram everything together it would’ve been great.
Rating: 1.5 out of 5
