In an alternate present-day version of Oakland, telemarketer Cassius Green discovers a magical key to professional success, propelling him into a macabre universe.
Sorry to Bother You is in select theaters on July 6th, 2018.
Sorry to Bother You may be one of the craziest and trippiest movies I’ve ever seen in my life. Definitely
the craziest movie I’ve seen in 2018! In what’s an alternate reality of present-day Oakland, we watch
Cassius Green navigate through the telemarketing world. He really needs to make money to help
support his fiancĂ© and save his uncle’s house from foreclosing, so as he discovers that if he uses his
“white voice” on the phone, he can make big sales. What ensues is absolute insanity.
As crazy and trippy as it was, it was fairly relevant to society today. As Cassius climbs the ladder he
begins to see what people are willing to do for money, and what his limits are. Is he willing to sacrifice
his moral compass for millions of dollars and a cushy apartment? How far will someone go to “make it
big”? While the general plotline is satirical madness, it’s features do push off from today’s world.
What really sold this movie for me was the amazing cast. Lakeith Stanfield plays Cassius Green (which I
was PUMPED about because he is amazing in Atlanta) and Tessa Thompson is his fiery, anarchist fiancé
Detroit. Together, they’re fearless and eccentric and make the movie feel real. Armie Hammer
completes the ensemble as the CRAZY cocaine-addicted CEO of the company Cassius is rapidly growing
at. This satiric, crazy film is an absolute must-see this summer. Just be ready for literally anything –
especially the ending!
