Review: The Boss

Melissa McCarthy is the new Martha Stewart?

Melissa McCarthy is back in her comedy role, wait, has she ever left it. Not really. While others may find this movie funny, compared to her other work, The Heat, most recently, it is not as original. If you remember Martha Stewart and you can think of anything anyone has every said funny about her, then you have this movie.

While there are some parts that will make you laugh way too loud for this movie, there are some other parts that you will just wonder what were they thinking. The even show a lot of the funny parts you saw in the trailer, heavily in this movie, and for some reason the audience I was seeing this with must not own a television or watch Youtube. As they laughed the loudest for those movie trailer funny parts in the movie.

If you lower your standards for this movie a little, then you might actually enjoy this film.

Of course there is nothing that can be bad to say about Kathy Bates. I feel like her character was underused and they needed to add more screen time of her. She was the unsung hero in the movie and was not represented well in the film.

There are some good cameos in the movie that you won't think about until after the movie. There are some Saturday Night Live actors and of course Melissa McCarthy's husband, and even Margo Martindale.

If I were you, I would just wait until this movie is out on Redbox, and just have a family movie night and watch this movie that way. Of course I would split the cost of the $1.20 movie rental with your family, so you don't waste that much money on this movie.

3 out of 5

I liked this movie because I love Melissa in everything she does, but, it was not as funny as I had hoped it would be. Would still recommend it to friends, though...

I think the turtleneck was just a style choice. But yeah, I was curious too.

Melissa McCarthy is a great comedian, but you're absolutely right. My sister wants to go see this movie, but, without seeing it, I told her it's not worth the $12 admission price. It would be better to pick up once it's available on Redbox.

Melissa McCarthy is talented. But I haven't seen this yet. Though I did like her in Identity Thief with Jason Bateman. I'll have to check it out.
