A movie about dogs talking to each other isn't new. We've seen this in the past, but it's usually a more kid-friendly, family-style film. With that said, throw that idea out the door. Here comes something so raunchy, so crazy, that sometimes you'll laugh too hard, and other times you won't believe what you're even watching on screen.
They say a dog is a man’s best friend, but what if the man is a total dirtbag? In that case, it might be time for some sweet revenge, doggy style.
A subversion of the dog movies we know and love, Strays is a hilarious, R-rated, live-action comedy about the complications of love, the importance of great friendships, and the unexpected virtues of couch humping.
The film seems to have a good amount of comedy relatable, even if they are dogs. It relates to what we really think dogs are thinking and what they do. There is no tone deafness in the way this comedy relates to what people will laugh at today. I will say there are times the joke goes too far, but then they quickly move to something that makes you laugh, to make you not even think about the thing you didn't laugh at.
Will Forte, being one of the only humans in the film, is perfect. You will not like him from the second you see him, and you will understand why the dogs are going against him. He is the perfect actor for this character. You will be rooting for the dogs in the movie. Once you see him, you'll understand.
I would say don't bring your kids to this movie, but you won't listen and will take kids. Ideally, your kids won't get the joke, or they will, and that's just the life they will live now.
Just get ready for some laughs, and some crazy monents during this movie.
Make sure you stay, as there are some end credit scenes. Nothing too crazy, but a little more chuckles.
