Werewolf by Night is a brand-new Special Presentation on Disney+ from Marvel Studios! The short film introduces us to a new side of the MCU, MONSTERS! We meet new characters, and go on an exciting mission filled with suspense, action, and horror!

Werewolf by Night fills a room with monster hunters who all have the same mission, kill a monster to win the Bloodstone. They will compete against each other, and all their lives are fair game. That’s right, this “Halloween Special” is full of kills, bloody kills at that! The genius idea that Marvel had was to make the tone of this feature be of the classic monster movies of our past. The entire 52-minute show is in black and white!

Gael Garcia Bernal plays Jack Russell, a monster hunter who also has a bit of a secret to keep hidden. We get dropped into this world immediately with no real set-up for any characters, which helps the audience feel like they’ve been around a long time, killing monsters and protecting the people of the MCU from a scary world. Laura Donnelly plays Elsa Bloodstone, the daughter of the previous carrier of the powerful relic, who feels that she deserves to be next in line by birth right. Both leads are fantastic in their own ways. Charismatic, sure of who they are, and strong-willed in their missions. I hope we get to see much more of them in the future!

The tone is purposefully a bit cheesy at times, but the suspense is top tier, when there is lightheartedness, it fits the world and the characters, and when there is action, you feel it with every blow. The surrounding cast fills out the world in a great way, and you even get to meet another monster who is NOT like you would expect at all! This was the directorial debut of Michael Giacchino, one of the best film composers of our time! He does a great job directing and also scored the entire show too!

I had so much fun with Werewolf by Night! I think this is the PERFECT show to have on Halloween night. Being a bit darker, it can introduce younger kids to the classic monster movies of the past, while taking the parents and grandparents down nostalgia street with a brand-new story! I can’t wait to watch it again this Friday, October 7 th on Disney+!

'Werewolf by Night' will stream on Disney+ on October 7th, 2022.
